Reckless Dive

Reckless Dive | Writing & Poetry

As the flurry of the season is upon us

let’s be no less curious about our own lives

as we are about others

What is a Reckless Dive?  The process is simple;

  • We will be catalyzed into writing upon first hearing a poem spoken twice by me.

  • We are simply getting curious about what arrives. There is no critique just a sharing with kind witness.

  • We will segue into some movement inviting all of us to receive the wash of poems and music that will come next.

The Poetry Dive* is a 30 minute immersion into music and poetry spoken by me. Nothing is needed from you. Simply allow the poems their impact.

You will be invited into a final writing in response to the dive poems.

And then in circle we will do a final share.

Please RSVP to hooplapoetry12@gmail.com

Cost is $60 | paypal.me/hooplapoetry12

If cost is a challenge I would rather have you with us than not. Pay as you can.

There is dew

on these poems in the morning,

and at night a cool breeze may rise from them.

In the winter they are blankets, in the summer a

place to swim.

I like talking to you like this. Have you moved

a step closer?

Reckless Dive

Reckless Dive | Writing & Poetry Dive

Join me on Sunday, December 12 at 1PM PT online (via Zoom) for a Reckless Dive.

We are into the last month of this year. A busy month for whatever you celebrate and let's not forget our need for nourishment. Even now, especially now? Join me for this oasis of time we gift to ourselves. We will use Reckless Writing to get curious and simply write towards our lives.

No writing experience is needed, no critiquing happens. We are only generating writing to see what comes forward, what wants to be known. And then we will move into our Reckless Poetry Dive. Nothing is needed from you. Simply allow the poems to wash over you.

Please join us if you can, this will be the last Reckless Dive until March of 2022.

RSVP: hooplapoetry12 to attend and with any questions

Fee: $60 via PayPal or Zelle - If cost is a challenge I would rather have you with us, than not. Pay what you can.

Can You Imagine

For example, what the trees do

not only in lightning storms

or the watery dark of a summer's night

or under the white nets of winter

but now, and now, and now - whenever

we're not looking. Surely you can't imagine

they don't dance, from the root up, wishing

to travel a little, not cramped so much as wanting

a better view, or more sun, or just as avidly

more shade - surely you can't imagine they just

stand there loving every

minute of it, the birds or the emptiness, the dark rings

of the years slowly and without a sound

thickening, and nothing different unless the wind,

and then only in its own mood, comes

to visit, surely you can't imagine

patience, and happiness, like that.

The weather is off balance, only silence

is spreading around us like a season,

it is the season of some inward sense

as the wind drones on with an inward tone.

Half-Day Away Workshop

Half-Day Away Workshop

As we bridge from summer into autumn let's take time to linger, to leave the busy-ness of our lives and slow down enough to listen for what calls for our attention.

Join me in a ‘Half-Day Away’ online (via Zoom) 9 AM - 1PM PT.

See what impact the world has made on us. We will spend time with poetry; you can relax & receive a poetry dive, with Reckless Writing and time in silence in your own space. This is open to anyone. This is not a writers workshop but a way to explore and just get curious.

We will take time. Climb into this time without outside expectations. Without need of being something to someone except being ourself to ourselves. We will ride with poetry into whatever is showing up for each of us. I will invite you into writing into getting curious about your own thoughts as we let them rise to the surface and we catch a glimpse of them. Let's notice and note what surfaces.

Bring pen and paper. Get comfortable. Find a space where you will be uninterrupted. Ask your housemates to honor this time of silence between you. We will move, we will write, we will bask in this oasis of time outside of time. This space where we are invited fully into ourselves.

Hope to see you there.

RSVP: hooplapoetry12 to attend

Cost: Understanding the strain of the world…email me - don’t let cost deter you. $0-$60 via PayPal or Zelle.

Conditions of Happiness

Take a bed in a quiet room and wake

without pain —

a kingdom is not necessary.

Just as one bird proves flight is possible,

a crumb of bread

establishes sun and wheat,

establishes heat, attests to the presence

of a loaf and hand.

When you do not measure time,

each day is a little year,

the whole expanse in miniature,

every season

an occasion for peace.

You have what you need

is what the birds sing all morning,

and the small boat on the river

tells us again —

If there is no wind, then row.

Half-Day Away Workshop

Half-Day Away Workshop

Going forward what will we make of our lives? How do we want to live into our future?

Let’s take time to get curious about our own lives. We can do that, together. Join me in this online ‘Half-Day Away’ (via Zoom).

We will co-create a circle to stand in, to journey with as we inquire into the who we are now. There will be Reckless Writing, prompted by poems I share, a poetry immersion, time for reflection, and silence. Let’s start to imagine into the future we long for.

We will move from writing to silence and solitude with a poetry dive/immersion in the middle. You will have time to write, linger, to contemplate, to let the busyness of the world go for a few hours. All in the comfort of your home. I know we are Zoom fatigued but we will move in and out of Zoom so don't let that deter you. Let's see what it feels like to spend this much time with poetry, and ourselves. All you will need is paper and pen, and quiet.

I will send a lengthier preparation list as we get closer.

RSVP: hooplapoetry12@gmail.com to attend

Cost: Understanding the strain of the world…will be by donation $0-$60 paypal.me/hooplapoetry12
